BLACK FLAG - THE FLYER ART OF R. PETTIBON BOOK

THIS IS A PRE ORDER - PLEASE ALLOW 4-6 WEEKS FOR PRODUCTION

This book is a striking visual tribute to the unmistakable flyer art of Black Flag and the raw, confrontational imagery of Raymond Pettibon.

Gathered from the early 1980s hardcore explosion, these works capture a pivotal moment in underground culture. Pettibon, brother of Black Flag founder Greg Ginn, not only defined the band’s visual identity but also created the now-iconic four-bar logo. His artwork became inseparable from the sound and spirit of the movement.

Rendered in stark black and white, Pettibon’s flyers were hand-drawn, photocopied, and distributed in true DIY fashion. The imagery is immediate and unfiltered, marked by jagged lines, dark humor, noir undertones, and unsettling scenes that blend violence, horror, and biting social commentary. Provocative and often confrontational, the pieces reflect both the tension and the creative defiance of the era.
These designs advertised now-legendary performances, including Black Flag’s 1981 show at the Peppermint Lounge, and helped establish the visual language of SST Records. More than promotional tools, the flyers became enduring symbols of American hardcore.

Fan club edition designed for collectors, hardcore devotees, and admirers of underground graphics, this compact volume offers a focused visual time capsule of early hardcore’s most influential aesthetic.
